Legendary actor Om Puri passes away


Veteran actor Om Puri passed away in Mumbai at the age of 66.He was found dead at his home on Friday morning.Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit, who was a close friend of the actor, first confirmed the sad news of his demise on Twitter.

Mr.Puri returned home last evening after a shoot.According to reports , his door bell went unanswered,following which his driver raised an alarm.

The veteran actor was an Padma Shri awardee & studied at the Film and Television Institute of India and at the National School of Drama, where Naseeruddin Shah was his classmate.He was born on October 18, 1950, hailing from Ambala in Haryana.He made his film debut in 1976 with the Marathi film ‘Ghashiram Kotwal’.

Om Puri featured in films like ‘Don’,’Ardh Satya’,’Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron’ and ‘Mirch Masala’. More recently, he was seen in the movies, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and ‘Ghayal Once Again’.Om Puri also had a meaty and memorable role opposite Helen Mirren in Steven Spielberg’s 2014 American comedy drama ‘The Hundred-Foot Journey’.He had also delivered some stellar performances in mainstream commercial Pakistani, Indian and British cinema apart from making a dent in Hollywood with his roles in ‘City of Joy’, ‘Gandhi’ and ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’.
